The Rise of Orlando
Like every other city in the world, Orlando has its history too and a unique in which it came about. Orlando is located in Orange County which is in Central Florida. It sits in a lake-dotted region and geographically at the Northwest of Melbourne and Northeast of Tampa. It has always been among the most famous city and the focus in the Metropolitan areas.
The earliest inhabitants of this region were the Timucua and later on, the Seminole people followed and occupied the area. Serious settlement started in the year 1843 in Fort Gatlin where was the main area of settlement and an army post. It was initially named Jernigan after a prominent early settler but later renamed in the 1857 Orlando in honor of Orlando Reeves who was an army sentry. He was killed during the Seminole Wars. The occupants decided to honor as he was a popular soldier who fought for his people.
Around this time, the city was famous as a cotton and cattle center as many of the surrounding the region were farmers. After the Seminole Wars, citrus farming evolved and became the leading industry. Many changes came about from the development of the railroad connecting South Florida and Tampa in 1880. There was many development projects Cape Canaveral aerospace complex in the east. This development accelerated growth in the area thus a steady increase in population from the people who were moving in in search of jobs and settlement. Attractions facilities followed and the leading the city to acquire the National Basketball Association franchise or the Orlando Magic in the year 1987.
Since the end of the wars, the city has seen tremendous growth and construction of many facilities. One of the major attractions was the construction of Walt Disney World in 1971 which attracted many tourists from various parts of the world. Other sites of attractions continued to come up which include the Magic Kingdom, the Disney-MGM Studios, Epcot and the Animal Kingdom. Many resorts and restaurants are available in Orlando, and one such major resort is the Orlando Resort which is the home of Universal Studios and also the Islands of Adventure theme parks.
If you are a fan of art, you can visit the Lack Haven Park where you will observe the most of the historical work done by famous artists, development in science and also historical museums. To the south, you will also find Gatorland which is a fancy home for crocodiles and alligators. You can tour around Orlando exclusive parks and lakes to relax and exercise adventures. You can also go for a picnic under the old oaks, fly around the city in a hot air balloon, visit the dolphin spots while on a boating trip and swim with manatees.
The Orlando economy has been spurred by the adoption of latest technology advancements where almost everything uses technological approach. Farming has also contributed a lot to the economy since the early times such as the citrus industry. Other major boosters of Orlando economy include manufacturing industries, especially the aerospace and missile systems. Orlando is a modern city and continues to prosper.
